How To Shave Your Face

Knowing how to shave your face is something all guys need to do from time to time, but there is a lot more to it than just slapping some cream on your face and scraping the stubble off.

Something you should do first is figure out what your skin type is and then plan your attack with products geared for your skin.

Skin Types

Its easy to figure out your skin type. There are basically 4 types:

Normal

Dry Skin

Oily Skin

Sensitive Skin

Normal Skin

Normal skin has medium sized pores with a smooth, even texture. Sometimes your cheeks with be dry while being oily in the t-zone (down your nose and across your forehead).

For normal skin most gels, creams, or foams will work for you.

Dry Skin

Dry skin feels tight, especially after cleansing. After showering in the morning and your skin dries you might have visible dry, flaky skin.

For dry skin go with a gel or a cream that contains aloe. The aloe helps soothe and moisturize.

Oily Skin

Oily skin is shiny, by the afternoon your face starts to feel greasy. You are prone to blackheads and blemishes.

Most creams, gels, or foams will work fine with oily skin, but you should avoid products that contain alcohol.

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin has fine pores and delicate, thin skin. Frequently, sensitive skin is allergic and can develop rashes from products.

For sensitive skin, try applying a pre-shave oil before you put on the foam or gel.

The steam will open up your pores and soften your whiskers. Lather up some cream and put it on your face and then shave the way your whiskers grow.

On your neck you want to shave up, and on your face you should shave down.

When you're all done, you can apply another layer of cream and quickly shave against the grain for a super-close shave.

When you're done, rinse your face with cold water; it will close your pores and help prevent ingrown hairs. When you're done apply some of your favorite aftershave.
