How to Build Muscle Mass

The formula to build muscle mass is really simple, but its not easy. To gain muscle mass, you need to increase calorie intake, while increasing muscle stress. So if you go to the gym and do 3 sets of 5 at 200 lbs. every week, nothing is going to happen. The key is to increase the weight or reps each workout. So, we’ll go back to our example: if this week you do 3 sets of 5 reps at 200 lbs, next week you will try for 3 sets of 5 reps at 205 lbs. Or you could go for 3 sets of 6 reps at 200 lbs. When you get up to where you’re lifting a lot of weight, it won’t be possible to go up 5lbs week in and week out, so the best thing to strive for is extra reps. When you can successfully do 3-4 more reps than before, its time to increase the weight. Again, this is really only feasible if you track your progress in a workout journal. A work out journal is a necessity.
